On Friday, the Kindergarten class celebrated letter “Ii” for ABC countdown. The “Ii” was for international day where we celebrated each student’s culture. To do this, each student shared an item that represented their culture. We found so many connections to each other, and we loved learning about different counties around the world! #bethanylions

The Kindergarten class has been learning about landforms and maps in social studies! One student chose to make a diorama of an island. Notice all her detail in the water, the sand, and the fancy palm tree. She even did an amazing oral report. Distance learning can be fun! #bethanylions #kindergartensocialstudies #landforms #maps #kindergarten

The kindergarteners learned about the butterfly life cycle this week! They were able to use a magnifying glass to look at our caterpillars growing, preserved butterflies, and models of each stage of the life cycle. We also took time to pray and thank God for creating butterflies. They are little scientists! #bcslions

We are learning all about the body in Kindergarten! Check out our life size models. Each day we add a new element to our model, we are thankful that God has designed our bodies! He is so talented. #bcslions #kindergarten

Today was the end of week one of our arctic animals unit! We learned all about penguins and how they have special feathers that help them slide on ice. We then did a science experiment testing different items in our classroom to see if they can slide or not. After our experiment, we played with the leftover ice!

Our next Christmas book was, “The Legend of The Candy Cane.” We learned that if you flip it around it is a “J” for Jesus and if it is right side up it is a staff for the shepherds who visited Jesus at the stable. A candy cane is red for the blood shed for us by Jesus, and white because we have been cleansed of our sins.

A fun new twist on Go Fish! We had to find the different ways to make 6! #bethanylions #mathfun

Today was STEP #4 of becoming STRONG Leaders with the Apex Team. Our students learned what it means to Overcome. The Apex Team talked about the double A rule: Attitude and Action! Our students learned that attitude is the way you think and feel, and action is what you do. With a positive attitude and immediate, appropriate action, STRONG leaders can overcome. Greetings Bethany Christian Families! Today was STEP #3 of becoming STRONG Leaders with the Apex Team. Our students learned what it means to REFUEL and why it is so important to take care of our three tanks: Our brain, our body, and our soul. We can only be STRONG leaders by taking care of our body through consistent exercise and healthy eating habits. We give our brains a break by getting a good amount of sleep, not worrying or stressing and not spending too much time on our devices. We fill our soul by spending time in God’s word.
Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” Matthew 4:4
Here is our top 3 leaderboard:

Today (5/1) was STEP #2 of becoming STRONG Leaders with our Apex Team, and what it means to be TRUSTWORTHY. In order for leaders to be trustworthy, we have to do what we say and be accountable for our actions. The best teams are filled with members who can rely on and trust each other. When we are trustworthy, we earn more freedom!
'Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.' Proverbs 3:5-6

Pi Day highlights: learning from horse veterinarian, Dr. Ryan Carpenter. Dr. Carpenter taught students about horse surgery, setting fractured horse bones, and helping horses breathe better for their races. Students looked like young horse vets at the end of this session, wearing all the gifts Dr. Carpenter gave!

Pi Day highlights: “Seeing God in Health Science” with Mrs. Breanne Shaw, R.N. Mrs. Shaw shared her interest in the health sciences, her calling to serve others through nursing, and Bible passages about health and the body. She also showed students tools of her trade, taking student blood pressure readings and demonstrating an ultrasound machine.

Shadow spelling at it’s finest... it spells ”bcs” 😊

The Sierra Madre Playhouse put on an excellent rendition of E.B. White’s book, *Stuart Little!* BCS Kindergarteners, 1st graders, and 3rd graders got to enjoy the performance. The theater personnel gave us insider information about set design, props, lighting, and sound. After the play was over, the actors came back out to answer student questions. It was an amazing theatrical experience!

Happy Chinese New Year! Mrs. Li teaches us how Chinese characters hold spiritual meaning. She blessed us with red envelopes, chick filet cards and cookies.

Hebrews 11 is our guiding Scripture passage in Elementary Chapel this year. We are learning about all the saints of the Old Testament who put their faith into action. Hebrews 11 is often called the “Hall of Faith” for this reason. In first grade, we have been creating a “Gallery of Faith” as we learn about Bible characters in Chapel and in our Bible curriculum. Today, our gallery filled up! It’s time for new frames and more wall space.

Dr. Walner invites you to partner with us as we look ahead. The 100th day of school is coming up. We are preparing for re-enrollment month. Catch the Vision at Reaching for 2020 on Thursday, February 7. Have you taken the Parent survey yet?

Look what first graders can do! Check out these completed graphing projects! Students designed a survey, questioned their classmates, and then represented their data in three ways: 1) a tally chart, 2) a bar graph, and 3) a picture graph. It’s fun to get off the workbook page and to put learning into action!

Discovery can sometimes be best the best way to learn something new. The first graders had a discovery learning experience to prepare them for a math chapter on graphs and charts. After practice with sorting and categorizing, the students were asked to represent their data visually, on a poster. How could they show what was in their basket of shapes without using the basket? Students got very close to discovering bar graphs and picture graphs through their exploration!

Books can help us stay focused on Jesus as the center of the Advent season! Today, our Guest Reader brought books that reminded Bethany first graders of these truths: first, that Christmas is God’s gift to us and second, that Jesus wants to be welcomed into our hearts. Thank you, Mrs. Parry, for such beautiful and timely reminders!

Advent is here, the season of waiting. First graders want to rush to Christmas and Santa and presents, but Mrs. Poppleton is asking them to slow down and to enjoy the wait. The first graders are making Advent alphabet books again this year to focus on the true meaning of the season. Check out some of their first pages. 💕💜

Operation Christmas Child Update: "This week, Bethany Church is one of nearly 5,000 Operation Christmas Child drop-off locations open across the country to receive the shoebox gifts you lovingly pack for boys and girls in need. There’s still time to pack a shoebox and bless a child overseas, but don’t delay. National Collection Week ends Nov. 19."

BCS Parent Reminder: Chipotle Fundraiser TODAY 4-8pm. Eat in, Take out at 3409 E Foothill Bl, Pasadena. Let them know you are supporting Bethany Christian School.

In first grade, we start our day with Morning Tubs. Morning Tubs offer a low-pressure way to practice and review curriculum, to explore STEM games and toys, and to engage in hands-on learning. It’s difficult for first graders to enter school and get quiet and still right away. Morning Tubs are a bridge from a morning at home to more rigorous academic material.

Due to strong winds and power outage, school is CANCELLED for TODAY 10/15/2018

It is time for Spring Cleaning...or rather Fall cleaning! We all love our church and school, but our campus could use a little love itself. So we are coming together as a family to Beautify Bethany! Paper sign-ups sheets are available in the church lobby. Visit our Facebook Page to sign up. https://www.facebook.com/events/746238889072927/
