Look what first graders can do! Check out these completed graphing projects! Students designed a survey, questioned their classmates, and then represented their data in three ways: 1) a tally chart, 2) a bar graph, and 3) a picture graph. It’s fun to get off the workbook page and to put learning into action!

If you haven't heard, I'm having a baby! The 3rd graders have been so excited to share this journey with me, I had to think of a fun and educational way to announce the gender. They found out that 3/8 of the class was right! It's a little girl!

Discovery can sometimes be best the best way to learn something new. The first graders had a discovery learning experience to prepare them for a math chapter on graphs and charts. After practice with sorting and categorizing, the students were asked to represent their data visually, on a poster. How could they show what was in their basket of shapes without using the basket? Students got very close to discovering bar graphs and picture graphs through their exploration!

The 3rd graders had a great time building gingerbread houses today! It wasn't just fun and games, however. They first had to make a design, then build the houses based on their plans. Tomorrow, they will make a graph of the candies they used and reflect on the end product.
